Elated and Water-Logged

Told you it would be better when we beat duke at cameron! And on Senior night! The Tarheels completely ruined Senior night at Cameron. Wow. My fingers felt like they had magic powers when they just typed that. Holy cow, John and I are so happy about the win we can hardly think straight. The excitement of the game put us in a trance last night. We were saying things that didn't make sense or were either meant to be witty but didn't come out right. For instance, when Frasor hit one of his 3-pointers, John yelled "whipped cream supreme", and later referred to Frasor as his "little, white hero!" The things I yelled actually did make sense, but they were mostly derogatory (and ridiculous) comments against the devils. "Quit showing the stupid fans and show the GAME!!!!" "If I see one more clip of jj redick during a time out, I'm gonna throw up!" Tyler Hansbrough was amazing, wasn't he? I wonder how our Heels' freshmen feel after outscoring the seniors of the #1 ranked team in the country. But, it wasn't the Tarheel's athleticism, hustle, coaching or determination that pulled out the 'Dub'. No....we have the great jj to thank for the 'emotional fatigue' he's suffering from. Did anyone else experience palpitations the 57th time one of the announcers accredited jj's poor performance to the distress of breaking the ACC scoring record? They kept commenting about this so-called emotional fatigue as if he'd been working with Katrina victims for the past 6 months. Can't the guy just have a bad night without some excuse? I think so. And that's exactly what happened last night, along with our Heels stompin' the junk out of each and every devil that hit the floor and I love it so much I can barely stand it. Can't wait for the Tournament! Go Heels!

Jack has also sensed the "sweet nectar that is victory" today. (Another phrase that fell from the lips of my husband last night! John is obviously insane!) After the win, John and I went into Jack's room where he was sleeping and whispered to him that UNC had won and that dook stinks. He wiggled in approval. To celebrate Jack's first UNC-dook victory, we upgraded his carseat today AND took him swimming for the first time. In an indoor pool, don't worry. The water was a little chilly, but he kicked and slapped the water like he was having fun. On the way home after the swim, Jack was asleep before we every drove out of Berkeley Hall. In his new, safe, huge carseat.

Trev, while your energy spent on finding the amiable quotes from coach k are heart warming, it's hard to imagine that the foul-mouth that they came from ever uttered them. Still, he did say those things apparently, and I commend him for sucking it up and realizing that his team did lose to the better team on Saturday. Unfortunately, one's character can't be determined solely on post-game comments, especially after losing. Amazing that the refs did manage to take their usual ear load of crap from him during the game, particularly at the end just after a foul had been called against UNC. Guess the foul wasn't enough. Or maybe I'm wrong. coach was probably encouraging them for how they were "really in control of the game." I can't expect to fully explain in silly blog entries why a UNC fan doesn't like duke, particularly this fan. It's not just the coach, but it's how everyone outside of the duke-hating realm treats this school. It's excusing a loss to emotional fatigue instead of saying they had a bad night. That wasn't from the coach, but from outsiders who worship that place. I guess it takes going to a school with such an intense rivalry to understand that. Yes, it takes 'liking the team a lot', but moreso it's loving the school. So if you're attempting to sway my opinion of coach k, good luck. If you're writing to clear the name of the great coack k on this blog, no one who reads it cares. I think you're just a big dookie at heart and you can't help yourself. And....as for the FSU/duke game quote on the 40 to 17 fouls, what else can be said after FSU was dealt such a terrible hand at cameron that the refs were suspended? Oh, this could go on forever, but I'll stop here. I never thought I'd be related to a duke fan/apologist. But...we're only in-laws afterall, right? Thanks for responding, Trev. And you're right. Tyler Hansbrough is ridiculously good.
